About this trip
The full loop, and the only package here that reaches the desert. It runs anticlockwise from Casablanca: down the coast to Essaouira and Agadir, inland to Marrakech, over the Atlas to Ouarzazate, then east through the Dades and the Todra gorge to Erfoud, where the tarmac ends. From there it is four-wheel drive across the dunes and a camel to a camp at Merzouga for sunset.
The second half comes back north through Midelt and Ifrane to Fes for two nights, then Volubilis and Meknes on the way to Chefchaouen, Tangier by way of Tetouan, and a guided stop in Rabat on the last run down to Casablanca. Thirteen days, nine places to sleep, and a great deal of road — which is what it takes to see a country this size properly.
What you go for
- A night in a camp on the Erg Chebbi dunes, reached by 4x4 and camel
- The Dades valley and the Todra gorge, with cliffs over 300 metres
- Essaouira and Agadir on the Atlantic, and the coast road between them
- Volubilis, Chefchaouen and Tangier on the way back north
